ok so i want to buy a panasonic home theater system and this is what it says in the description:
the SC-BT300 delivers 1250 Watts of 7.1 channel sound in a snap.
Home Theater Mode: Total Output Power of 600W
so is the total watts 1250 or 600? and what does home theater mode mean?
Do not go by what they say on the box, specially home theater in a box. It is a combined of total power at the maximum. The best way to rate a system is by check the RMS rating per channel on the system. Home theater in a box are not very flexible in adding other equipment to it, and when one item breaks down the whole system is gone. I do favor the receiver for it’s flexibility to add or upgrade the system down the road. Look at an Onkyo HT-S6200 for around $600, it is a 7.1 receiver and a set of 7.1 speakers. Add a Panasonic blu ray disc player BD-60 and you have a nice system. Go to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, receiver, HTB and others. Hope this will help you out.

Always go by RMS wattage, not peak power. That is the actual amount of sound the unit will put out and handle continuously. Those peak wattage numbers don’t mean anything.
