High Definition television has been labeled as one of the most important changes to be made to television programming in decades. It is certainly true that few things have changed television programming like the technology of high definition. Through HD, viewers are able to take advantage of images with high resolution as well as a picture quality that is completely life like. In addition, HDTV offers 3-D stereo surround sound for a complete home theater experience. If you have not yet upgraded to HDTV you may wonder what you need to do to get started with HDTV. Although it may sound as though it would be complicated, expensive or time consuming, that is not the case.

If you do not already have a satellite television subscription, you will need to sign up through a company like DirecTV. DirecTV is typically considered to be the best choice by many consumers because of the number of HD channels they offer as well as the high quality of service that can be obtained through this provider.

When you sign up for the service, you will receive a small satellite dish as well as installation service for the dish. While owners can install the satellite dish on their own, if you are not familiar with this process it is often best to have a professional do it for you. In addition, you will also receive a device that is known as a set top box that will provide you with HD programming.

This is not all you will need. You will also need to have a television that is HD compatible. Recently, prices on high definition televisions have dropped so many consumers will find them to be far more affordable than they were when they were first introduced. To determine whether your current television is compatible for programming in HD, check the back or the side of the television. If it is HD compatible, then you should be able to locate MIDI or RGB inputs. If those inputs are not present then you will need to invest in a HD compatible television. With a receiver and a HDTV, consumers will be able to watch high definition programming as well as regular programming.

When you sign up for satellite service, you will need to speak to a DirecTV representative to determine the best receiver for your needs. There are actually several different receivers you can choose from, so it is important to ask for details on the benefits that are provided with each model.

A MIDI or RGB cable will be needed to connect all of the different components. This cable is used to connect all of the components to the television. That is really all that is needed to get started watching great high definition television. If you already have a subscription through DirecTV but you are interested in upgrading to high definition then you can do that as well. With just a few simple steps you can begin enjoying the many benefits of high definition.

Help making my PS3 go to high definition?
I just bought a new HDTV and I am having trouble hooking it up to high-definition. I have a HDMI cable hooked up to both the PS3 and TV (and yes my TV does support 1080p) but when I go to the display settings and change it to HDMI, my screen goes black for 30 seconds and nothing happens. The HDMI cable I bought was kind of cheap but it said it was for the PS3 and it does support 1080p.

Simply reset your PLAYSTATION 3 to restore the default SD setting in the following way: turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 system then press and hold the power button for approximately 5 seconds until you hear a beep.

You can then use the Settings category in the XMB to configure your Display settings manually.

then:video output settings & select the type of connector on your TV.
    "HDMI"
keep moving right to next Screen
if it ask to to accept settings hit x yes
then on the last Screen it will ask you to save screen hit x again
