Though not the smallest, it is one of the smaller Extended Definintion speaker series from Sony; the SS-LA300PKG which is what it’s called in a full system. The system consists of (4) SS-LA300ED Satellite Speakers, (1) SS-C305ED Center Speaker, and (1) SS-WD300 250 watt Powered Subwoofer. The 4 satellite speakers each have a 4″ paper cone woofer and 3/4″ neodymium tweeter. The center speaker has two 31/3″ drivers and the same tweeter. They are all 8 ohms with an amazing freqency response of 60-70,000 Hz. The 250 watt digital subwoofer is very tight and goes acceptably low with no distortion.
The drivers are housed in time aligned, curved magnessium alloy cabinets that measure about 12″ on the stands, and weigh about 12 lbs. each. It should be obvious these are not your typical Sony speakers. They are one of several very limited edition Extended Definition speaker series. For their size, they convery an amazing amount of quality sound, and are extremely stylish. Pretty speacial dudes for sure, and I’m very fortunate to have two full sets of them. They were pretty pricey ($1,300) new, but they are very well made and compared to Bose and some other similar systems, a bargain.
As you can hear, they play music content with excellent detail. Still I consider them primarily home theater speakers, and they really work well in that capacity. Due tot he irregular nature of movie tracks, I found it better to demo the speaker here with music.
