    Not so fast beardy, most players downsample the digital signal before outputting to hdmi, so the only good way is still via firewire or analog rca.

    Yeah, definitely a little frustrating. He also sort of implied that Toslink (or fiber optic) was better than the coaxial digital connections. In practice they both sound identical.

    Why would that be? HDMI is capable of carrying up to 7.1 channels of audio. Just plug the HDMI into the receiver and then the receiver to the display.

    Now Optical is the best audio output you can get….but if you use too old dvd-players or other older things with optical audio…the sound might get quiker to the speakers than the image will get on the screen.
